What Customers Say About Yamaha RX-V463BL 525 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

Maybe this is common with other AVRs, I don't know. For example, I have a PS3 set to PCM which decodes DTS-MA and TrueHd then sends the signal along as lossless PCM to the 463 which is set to "Straight". I've had this receiver for about a year and I must say that for the money it has been very, very good. Also, I've heard some express concern over the fact that this unit does not decode DTS-MA and TrueHD signals. FYI, if you own a PS3, you don't need to worry about it. One thing of note is that I recommend using the YPAO as a starting point only. Many BD players will do the decoding, so the receiver does not have to.

Before you buy a receiver, if you already have a BD player, I suggest finding out if the player will decode DTS-MA and TrueHD. The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is because of the OSD situation requiring a separate connection other than the HDMI connection. That way the amp does not process the signal at all, simply passing through the already decoded signal in all it's intended glory. You'll have to do some tweaking on your own to get it to sing. Depending on your setup, that may not be a problem. If it does, than save yourself some money and get a receiver that does not decode DTS-MA and TrueHD because you don't need it. Just run a HDMI cable to the receiver > HDMI cable to the monitor, and you're good to go assuming that your speakers are connected correctly.

It's cool to look at but so far I've only been able to connect my DVD player to it. Can't figure out the HDMI function yet.

I am unable to properly rate the V463 because the I received the V465 instead. The V465 does not support A/B switching. I know that the V463 has been replaced with the v465, but why list the V463 for sale (and in stock) if you plan to switch it out with the V465. I specifally wanted the V463 because I was looking for a Yamaha receiver that would support both A/B switching and an IPOD Dock. I do not know why Yamaha has removed A/B switching from most of its receivers. I must be missing something.

The V465 goes for almost $100 MORE than the V463 and has more HDMI jacks. Last Sunday I ordered the V463 from Electronics Expo through Amazon.com. Electronics Expo explained that they had sold out of the V463. Imagine my surprise on Thursday when I found out that they had sent me the wrong receiver. Instead of the V463 they had sent the V465. Plan on buying the V463 and read the reviews for the V465 since--and I won't guarantee it--you will probably receive the V465. Of course, the receiver is terrific and so is Electronics Expo.A satisfied customer

As we were away on vacation when this item arrived and we sought professional help to set it up, this took longer than 14 days. Been away returned to set it up and find impossible to understand. We have the original packing boxes and would like to return this item and purchase something else. You can't even read anything on the receiver the print is so small. Contacted AV Wholesale to return it who told us we are out of the 14 day return period, which they did not make us aware of. Can you help. This is our first internet buy of anything other than clothing and shaping up to be our last. This has been a terrible experience.
